HALO has launched its Global Strategy 2025–2028, setting out an ambitious roadmap to protect lives and restore livelihoods in an era of escalating global conflict and humanitarian need.
With over 120 active conflicts worldwide and two billion people living in conflict-affected areas, HALO's mission has never been more urgent. According to the Global Peace Index the global economic impact of organised violence has reached $19.97 trillion – the equivalent of China's annual GDP.
HALO's new strategy responds to a shifting global landscape marked by increased urban warfare, rising use of improvised explosive devices and declining aid budgets.
"HALO is moving from a focus on landmines to tackling the central challenge of our day – the rise of conflict across the globe. By embracing technology, we will increase our already significant impact. In doing so, we remain committed to being first in and last out – acting before, during, and after conflict to protect civilians and enable recovery."
HALO's strategy focuses on diversifying funding, leveraging cutting-edge technology and embedding environmentally sustainable practices across its operations.
HALO is already using drones, AI analysis of imagery and mechanical excavation to make explosives removal faster, safer and more cost-effective. Under its new three-year strategy, HALO will expand the technological transformation of its work.
