In April, six Congressional staffers with roles associated with foreign affairs joined HALO USA for a privately-sponsored visit to observe and learn about demining and malnutrition programs in the Horn of Africa.
The delegation spent several days learning about HALO’s humanitarian work in the region. In addition to visiting a minefield to see first-hand how HALO conducts demining operations in the field, participants met with community leaders and mine accident survivors, saw a Mine Risk Education (MRE) session, visited a local health clinic, and engaged with international organizations like UNICEF and the United Nations World Food Program.
The trip was generously funded by the Eleanor Crook Foundation (ECF), a philanthropic organization working to end global malnutrition through research, policy analysis, and advocacy. Delegations like this one are vital to provide education on the critical intersection of demining and food security.
