Legacy gifts provide vital support to HALO's work. They help us to protect vulnerable children and create safe spaces for future generations. Legacy giving offers a flexible way to support us and may provide tax benefits for you.
There are a few different ways you can make saving lives part of your legacy, including:
- Donate in your will
- Charitable gift annuity
- Beneficiary designation
We're grateful for every gift, however large or small, as they all make a difference.
Donate in your will
It's easy to add a legacy gift for HALO to your will. You just need to include a sentence outlining your wishes, like this example:
“After taking care of all expenses, debts and other provisions, I give, devise and bequeath ___% of the rest and residue [or $___ if a specific amount] to The HALO Trust USA, a District of Columbia-based nonprofit corporation [Tax ID# 52-2158152] currently located at 1730 Rhode Island Avenue NW, Suite 206, Washington, DC 20036.”
Charitable gift annuity
A great way to make a significant legacy donation, is to transfer your assets into a charitable gift annuity. This enables you to pledge a large sum to The HALO Trust, while receiving a fixed income on that money for life.
A charitable gift annuity also offers a variety of tax benefits.
Beneficiary designation
Another popular way to donate is to make HALO a beneficiary on one of your assets, for instance:
- IRAs and retirement plans
- Life insurance policies
- Donor advised funds
- Commercial annuities
To set this up, follow these steps:
- Contact your plan or asset administrator to request a change of beneficiary form
- Designate The HALO Trust USA as a beneficiary
- Decide the percentage you would like us to receive
- Return the form to your administrator
- Let us know about your decision
