June 21, 2023 | House Armed Services Committee supports demining research & development in NDAA
On June 21, 2023, the House Armed Services Committee approved an amendment led by Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA-6) in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) draft authorizing $23 million for the Army’s Humanitarian Demining Research & Development (HD R&D) Program in Fiscal Year 2024, a $2 million increase from last year’s appropriation and a $14 million increase from the FY24 President’s Budget.
The HD R&D program develops new demining technology and machinery that is safer and more efficient, which HALO uses around the world. HD R&D equipment allows us to respond to new challenges in demining, from Ukraine to Cambodia, and get more landmines out of the ground faster. Increasing funding will keep civilians, deminers, and U.S. servicemembers safer abroad.
The NDAA will now proceed to the House floor for debate and a VOTE
